The Scatcherds built this public house in 1800 to honour Horatio Nelson’s victory on the Nile. Watson Scatcherd held Morley's first Magistrate’s Court on the premises until 1817. He did so, sitting on an old Jacobean chair that is now in the Mayor’s Parlour in the Town Hall.
